Phoenix roofs are different

Valley homes mostly have three roof types, and each one produces very different debris:

Concrete and clay tile

Very common across Phoenix subdivisions. Many tile jobs are underlayment replacements: tiles come off, new underlayment goes on, and the tiles go back on. The dumpster then mostly holds old underlayment, battens and broken tiles, which is much lighter than a full tile removal. A full tile removal is extremely heavy and needs a heavy-debris plan like the one for concrete.

Asphalt shingles

Shingles are dense. A tear-off on a typical single-story home often fits a 20 yard, but multiple layers or larger roofs can exceed its weight allowance. Tell us the number of squares and layers.

Flat roofs: foam, built-up and roll roofing

Spray foam (SPF) and built-up roofs are common on older Phoenix ranch homes and commercial buildings. Foam is bulky but light. Built-up roofing with gravel is heavy. Tell us which one you have.

What to tell us when you call

• Roof type (tile, shingle, foam, built-up)
• Approximate squares (1 square = 100 sq ft)
• Number of layers coming off
• Whether tiles are being reused or removed
• Where the container can go: driveway, side yard or street (permit info)

Protect the driveway and landscaping

Place the dumpster as close to the roof edge as possible to cut down on carrying. Tarps over desert landscaping catch nails and granules. In summer, boards under the container rails help protect softened asphalt. More in our delivery prep guide.
