Delivery prep

How to Prepare for Dumpster Delivery

A roll-off truck needs a straight approach, room to tilt its bed, and clearance overhead. Ten minutes of prep the day before prevents most delivery problems.

Space the truck needs

As a general guide, plan for:

Straight approach~60 ft
Width~12 ft
Overhead clearance~23 ft

Approximate. Needs vary by container size and truck. Tell us about tight spots when you book.

The truck backs in and tilts its bed to slide the container off, so the clearance overhead matters as much as the space on the ground. Watch for tree branches, power and cable lines, and roof overhangs.

Choose the spot

  • Driveway is the most common spot and generally doesn't need a permit
  • Close to the work to cut down on carrying, such as near the roof edge for roofing or near the garage for cleanouts
  • Level and firm. Avoid soft dirt, septic lids, irrigation lines and sprinkler heads.
  • Street placement may require a city permit

Protect your driveway in Phoenix heat

A loaded roll-off is heavy, and summer heat softens asphalt and can stress pavers and decorative concrete. To help protect your driveway:

  • Ask for boards under the rails to spread the weight
  • Keep heavy debris spread evenly, not piled at one end
  • For new or decorative driveways, consider a smaller container or a side-yard spot

Delivery-day checklist

  1. Move cars, trailers, trash bins and basketball hoops out of the way
  2. Mark the exact spot with cones or chalk
  3. Unlock gates and share gate codes
  4. Let your HOA know if required
  5. Make sure we have a phone number that will be answered
  6. Keep kids and pets clear of the area during drop-off

During the rental

  • Load evenly and keep debris below the top rail
  • In monsoon season, weigh down or cover light debris
  • Don't move the container yourself
  • Keep prohibited items out
  • Call for pickup as soon as you're finished

Common questions

Do I need to be home when the dumpster is delivered?

Not usually. Mark the spot, clear the area and keep your phone nearby in case the driver has a question.

Can the dumpster go on grass or dirt?

Sometimes, if the ground is firm and dry. Soft ground, especially after monsoon rain, can cause ruts or leave the truck stuck. Tell us about the surface.
