Construction workers on a building site in the Phoenix area

How many toilets does your crew need?

Federal OSHA standard 29 CFR 1926.51(c) sets minimum toilet facilities on construction sites:

Number of workersMinimum facilities
20 or fewer1 toilet
20 or more1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers
200 or more1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers

That's the minimum. In practice, in Phoenix summer heat, crews drink a lot of water, and a single unit for 20 people fills fast. Read the full breakdown in our OSHA portable toilet requirements guide.

Service schedule

Standard job-site service is weekly: pumping, cleaning, restocking and deodorizing. Add service visits for large crews, long shifts or peak summer. If a unit needs attention between visits, call and we'll get it handled.

What sites typically add

  • Handwashing stations: OSHA also expects washing facilities where workers handle contaminants such as concrete, paints and adhesives
  • ADA units for sites that host inspections, visitors or public access
  • Roll-off dumpsters, delivered and serviced by the same company

Placement on a job site

  • Level ground with a clear path the service truck can reach in any phase of the build
  • Out of the way of cranes, deliveries and material staging
  • Some shade if you have it. It makes a noticeable difference in July.
  • Secured on exposed lots, since monsoon gusts can tip unsecured units

Starting a new site?Call with crew size, address and start date. We'll set up units and a service schedule.

Common questions

Is one porta potty enough for a small crew?

OSHA's minimum is one toilet for 20 or fewer workers. For a crew near that size in Phoenix summer heat, a second unit or extra service visits keeps things usable.

Can you move units as the site changes?

Yes. Call when the site layout changes and we'll relocate units as needed.

Do you rent to homeowners doing a remodel?

Yes. Many remodeling contractors put one unit at a residential job so crews aren't using the client's bathroom.
