What heat does to a portable toilet

• More odor. Heat speeds up bacterial activity in the holding tank.
• More use. People drink more water, so tanks fill faster.
• Hot interiors. A unit in direct sun gets uncomfortably hot inside.
• Faster supply use. Hand sanitizer, water and towels run out sooner.

Placement for heat

• Shade when possible, such as the north or east side of buildings, trees or shade structures, while keeping truck access
• Vents clear, not pushed against walls or fences
• Away from food and seating, but downwind isn't always predictable in monsoon season
• Firm, level ground so units don't lean as soil dries and shifts

Service frequency in summer

Monsoon season: secure your units

Arizona's monsoon season officially runs June 15 through September 30. Storms can bring sudden strong gusts and dust storms (haboobs). An unsecured portable toilet can tip over or be pushed across an open lot.

• Secure units on exposed sites, open lots and event fields
• Group units together and place them near structures that block wind when practical
• After a storm, check units for tipping or damage and call us for service if needed
• Keep dumpster debris weighed down too, since the same winds scatter loose material

Summer events

If you're hosting an outdoor event between May and September, consider evening start times, add restroom capacity, and put handwashing stations with sanitizer next to every cluster. For public events, include accessible units on a shaded, level route.

Crew health
